July 2009
As you may have noticed, we don't bother writing the diary any more. Most of our photos are stored on Facebook now.
We're going to build another website at some point but the day job sometimes gets in the way and there's always something else to do!
Here's how she's looking right now.
Just so you know we're still hard at work, here's a rundown of what we've done this year so far:
- New bigger improved wheelhouse
- Galley removed
- Repaired generators (now in full working order)
- Main engine repairs
- Removed old wheelhouse
June 2008
Operation wheelhouse removal is in effect! A bit later than planned, we've successfully taken off the old wheelhouse. We've loaded a few photos into the new Wheelhouse removal gallery and will be adding more there soon.
See us on Facebook!
We've also posted some photos on Facebook - pop by and say http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=128873&id=755479941&l=feecffbe24.
As is usual with these things, we're doing at least three things at once! So, although taking the wheelhouse off sounds easy enough (well when you have a big crane it does), we've also had to work on the upper engine room (this will become the galley) at the same time.
Because we were sleeping in the wheelhouse we've also moved into the bedroom below decks. That's not quite finished either but compared to the wheelhouse we feel like we live in complete luxury.
Things we had to get used to:
- Sleeping on a bed high up (Wendy thought she would fall off the bed)
- Realising we'd slept with our heads higher than our feet for 5 years and now feeling like we are the other way round. We're not, just took a bit of getting used to.
- Not waking up feeling like you had slept in a greenhouse
- The darkness in the bedroom. A couple of times Wendy got up at 5am convinced it was midday. Now we have a clock!
- Having no stairs (we have now)!
It's all going very well now and we're working at cleaning up the lower part of the engine room and getting rid of redundant machinery ready for the new floor.
March 2008
Yes, we're stll here. Working away. We've been working on some other boats, trying to clear the backlog. Once they are finished we'll be back on Atlantis in earnest.
Plan for this year - cut off the wheelhouse. We might put a new one on haven't decided yet! Ha-ha only joking. We'll be putting a bigger wheelhouse in its place with larger windows and access to the deck.
So there's no excude now - Justin has got to finish the bedroom - as we won't have one when the wheelhouse goes! Photos coming soon.
