All the action has been taking place in the fish-hold this month. The final cleaning of the bilge! It's a dreadful job and we're almost there. It's turned out to take a lot longer than we envisaged (never heard that before). Most of the crud, dead scallops, grease, rust and who know's what else has been removed and now they are being painted with heavy bitumen paint to stop any further corrosion. Once that's done we can start work on putting the floor in, quickly followed by a staircase. Photos to follow on that.

It might seem a bit like overkill with the bilge. If only we had smellaweb! The smell is horrendous. We both feel that it's a job that has to be done. The last thing we want is to be tucked up in our lovely new bedroom and get a waft of dead fish as we kiss goodnight!

September 2006

Well, first, as it's been nearly a year since we've updated the diary, we'll get the apologies out of the way. Sorry! We've been so busy with the work on Atlantis and are now running The Tiny Shipyard as a successful business. So much so, we have a permanent member of staff to help with the conversion work with another one on the way.

How do we summarise the last year in a couple of paragraphs? We're going to re-design the site to make the gallery more manageable and will be regularly updating the diary again. Things are moving forward well. We're about to seal up the back structure ready for the winter. Here's a quick run-down of what we're up to:

  • Moved the crane to the roof of the new structure
  • Removed the old generator (which was the new generator)
  • Installed two new generators
  • Sourced anchors and chain
  • Painted sections of the boat
  • Completed strip-out of fish-hold
  • Blasted and painted fish-hold
  • Replaced engine start compressor
  • Upgrading steering gear
It's funny, we have to keep reminding ourselves that a lot of the work we do as a lot of it isn't evident to most people.
